I just updated the post to add the link to the song that plays at the end of the voiceover- “The World Was Her Notebook” by Alex Kozobolis. Writing this post was accompanied by lots of piano vibes.
It's fascinating how good we can be at closing the door on certain thoughts/experiences and never accessing them again . . . but in time, it always bubbles up and must be dealt with. Thanks for this. Great post.
I agree. It takes me forever to come around sometimes, almost half a lifetime in this case 🤣 Thank you for reading and taking the time to respond Matt. Your support and your writing empower me.
This was beautifully therapeutic. I would like to listen to the voiceover at some point, too. I envy your view of conflict. I am an avoider at all costs kind of person. Don't like arguing. Don't like competing. Don't ask me to play board games. 😂
But there is room, and even a need, for those things if they're done right and with respect. Thank you for the insight. Looking forward to reading more from you, Jeannie. 😊
Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts Meg 🙏🏼 I’m so glad it was therapeutic for you. I am right there with you. Conflict and working through tension is still a challenge for me. Your board games comment made me lol. We can do this! 😂
Thank you Lana. This one was a real challenge to finish. I’ll have to remember that for future when I hit resistance- it’s worth it, something is coming through!
Wow. This is gorgeous. Thank you for commenting on my post at my other stack, Sincere American Writing. I love your voice, your physical one and your literary one. You made a very crucial point, especially in contemporary times: Disagreement should be cherished, not rejected. Disagreement is an honor, not a snub. It saddens me to see extremes on both sides of the political spectrum be unable to hear a different view. Each time the person on either side has an excuse: ‘But they don’t believe in Democracy,’ or ‘They’re just a brainwashed LibTard,’ etc. No: these are simply different views. It’s hard to accept differences sometimes, I know. We so righteously want to think we’re 100% right all the time. We all have egos. Tribes. But you’re absolutely correct: life cannot be fully embraced, fully lived, without grasping and accepting our inner and outer conflicts. Jung wrote a lot about this with his ‘shadow side.’ This goes back thousands of years. Yin and Yang. Black and white. But not good and evil: Or if this then only to realize that we ALL have a little of both within us. This is the nuance, the complexity of being human.
Jeannie: Let’s both ‘recommend’ each other’s Substacks. And maybe we can do a cross post or a post together or a call and response type thing? Let’s collaborate!
Michael, thank you so much for taking the time to read and give such a thoughtful response. Everything you elaborated about here resonates so much. I’d like to take some time to read at least a handful of your posts over at your Substack you linked here. I would also like to take you up on that- your invitation to collaborate! 🙏🏼 thank you again for your kind, generous words.
