Hi Jeannie,

Thanks for sharing your yoga origins & journey so far. I found yoga when I needed a transformation from deep emotional pain and its physical presence; after Laura died. I began yoga a few months later after the suggestion of a close friend and healer and found my first seconds and then minutes of relief from profound grief. I will write this story again soon. I published one years ago in an online yoga journal. I began with hot power yoga- since that is where my friend took me. Amazing! Glad to have you as part of the unconscious collective of yogis! So great your recovery took you to yoga and to Substack! Lucky are we all to know you!

Thank you for sharing this Susan. What a powerful example of yoga meeting you where you were, during such a difficult time. I can’t wait to read that story 🙏🏼 I’m so grateful to be connected with you too!

I loved this response, Jeannie. I love hot but I keep having bad headaches hours after class no matter what I do to try to hydrate! You’re enticing me to try again. I’m going to start 200 yoga teacher training on Friday!

Another friend of mine struggles with the heat headaches too, Stephanie. The last time I saw her at the studio, she popped an electrolyte packet (like Liquid I.V. or LMNT) into her water, and she said that helped, at least for the rest of that particular evening. That’s something I need to research more, regarding the various causes and remedies. And WOO-HOO for starting your RYT 200! 👏🏼 I hope to get the chance to read/hear about your experience. It’s so special!

Haha I have tried that exact same electrolyte and it still didn’t help. I’ve tried sole water too. My friend suggested drinking this drink that has chia seeds, lime, and cherry juice concentrate with water. It’s supposed to help with keeping hydrated instead of the water just releasing out (I’ll drink and just pee and pee and I don’t think I’m retaining any fluid). I’ll let you know how that goes. I think I need to do it a few days before the hot class

Thank you Curious for asking Jeannie this question. I too, wondered and her response is so eloquently given. Thank you Jeannie, as I struggle through a second year of Long COVID. I recently decided to stop all of the medication being thrust on me in an effort to make me”well”. I have chosen to follow a more holistic approach to beating this and I plan to use yoga heavily in my pursuit of health. I love you and I love hearing your voice every Sunday. A kiss and a wink to you 💕

Go Suellen, go! It makes me happy that you have found a path that feels right for you. Sending love, light, and all the healing your way. I value that holistic approach, and that’s a big reason I am so interested in pursuing yoga therapy. Glad we can be yogis together! 🥰

Love this, Jeannie! Especially loved the prompts for the breathing exercise. I may adopt a few of those :) 💜

So glad you enjoyed it, Sue! It all comes back to the breath. Sometimes I also use counted or “box breathing”- “inhale-2-3-4-5, exhale-2-3-4-5-6.” The breathing techniques have helped me so much with self regulation, so I enjoy sharing them.
